Biography of Yvonne Haight
2009 Nominee - Orpha Gatch Citizenship Award
Yvonne Haight is a member of the
American Legion Auxiliary Unit 450 where she volunteers her time at functions that benefit veterans and their families. She is also a member of Milford 1st United Methodist Church where she and her late husband, Will, worked with youth; the Milford Historical Society; the Clermont County Fair Board; and the Clermont County Convention and Visitors Bureau Board. Yvonne assumed leadership roles as a Realtor/Broker serving as President of the Clermont County Real Estate Board. She has been politically active serving Milford City Council from 1974-1979 and as its Mayor. She was a volunteer member of the Milford Fire Department, served 5 years as crew chief of the Milford Life Squad and served as the Director of the Milford-Miami Emergency Medical Squad.
Yvonne has never allowed gender barriers to stand in her way of achieving her goal to make a difference in the community. Yvonne was not only the first female member of the Clermont County Fair Board, she was its first female President. She was also the first woman to serve as a Vice President and Director of the Milford Miami Township Chamber of Commerce. She opened the first licensed Day Care in the State of Ohio in Milford, Ohio. Yvonne was only the second woman to be elected to Council for the City of Milford.
Yvonne is a model of volunteerism. Her mentor was Orpha Gatch, the namesake of this award. In Yvonne’s own words, “Most people in Clermont County know Yvonne Haight either by marrying them, having their kids in daycare, selling them a house or putting them in jail!”
